Practical Session is Saturday 17th September – 1.30 – 3.30pm.

We had a brilliant session with 17 of us, including a group of Guides and their leader. We got masses of jobs done on the Nature Reserve – we don’t meet in August so there was plenty to do!

As well as the usual litter pick, we mowed paths and cut back brambles, as we don’t work on the Nature Reserve in August these had grown a lot!. The main job we did  was to cut and clear some of the reeds in the main pond. While the water level is so low – there’s only a puddle at the far end, we can get in and cut out the roots more easily. Our brave volunteers put on waders, long arm gloves and set to work with spades and hand scythes with others pulling the hippo bags of cut reeds to the shore. They did a brilliant job and we plan to continue with this work during our October session.

We were all ready for our hot drinks and biscuits at the end of the session. Great work and thanks to everyone who came to help.

Green_Flag_300_x_225Green Flag Community Award
We have been awarded a Green Flag Community Award again this year! This success is a way to recognise all our supporters who have worked so hard on the Nature Reserve throughout the past 12 months. We can’t do it without you all!

Last year we had a ‘mystery shopper’ judge so we were unable to walk round the site with them and explain what we had been doing to develop the nature reserve. This year we again had a ‘mystery shopper’ judge, so we are waiting now to be sent the Judge’s report so we can incorporate his or her improvement points and any suggestions into the activities planned for the next few months.
